Figure 5.1 shows in dotted line the exact value of the performance index and in solid lines its lower and upper bounds, as a function of the sampling period in the time interval . As expected, for small values of the sampling period, the bounds virtually coincide with the true value of . In this region, the continuous-time as well as the discrete-time models represent the sampled-data system within some reasonable precision. Outside of this region, in this example, the true performance index is much closer to the lower bound than to the upper bound. This means that the proposed upper bound is useless since it cannot replace with an adequate precision.
